The Butte Roughriders have hired former Butte Irish and Butte Roughrider coach Joe Liquori to be the new head coach of the Butte Roughriders.

Former head coach Chris Shadow will now be the GM and Assistant Coach.

Ol Joe is back.
Seems he left there under some less than honorable circumstances. Gonna have to go back and look, but believe there was wine, women and song involved.

Actually Joe left under medical reasons, he has continued to work for the Roughriders since his departure as an east coast scout.

He left the Roughriders, not because of wine women or a song. He left on good terms with the owner of the Roughriders.

Wasn't any better when ol Joe was here before.
The medical issue before was alcohol and the personal issue was a billet parent.

you may be right, you may be wrong...but he's been gone a few years and this team needs something so lets hope for better days ahead...besides, we all live in glass houses - so i wont throw no stones! on a hockey note, I also hear a few of the decent kids are coming back, so maybe Joe can find something else to add...like a goalie!

Freddie,
You are ever so right. Butte is ready for a turn around. Hopefully this is the move that makes it happen.

Will you feel the same way when they post another six win season? They need competitive players much more than they need a coach with a name.

I have to say that Butte had its best year, winning percentage wise, when Joe L picked the team. I played for Joe that year, and if it wasn't for his health issues (which I can confirm, we had a couple of captains meetings in his hospital room), Butte would long be out of its current funk in my opinion. I actually ran into Joe this summer and was excited to hear of his return to coaching. Joe has always demanded much from his teams. Personally I feel that I am a better person due to the work ethic and determination that he instilled in me as a player.

You're kidding me, right Fred?

10 wins? You must not like playoff hockey then.

And you probably also wonder why they weren't invited to be a part of the new AWHL.

Oh well. Have fun this season.

I met with Joe this weekend and he seems very positive about the future of Butte. He seems to have some progressive ideas, hopefully they will work out for him and the team.

Well, Sir, I do drink and I have slept with a billet parent. Same for my wife. I have lots of windex, too, as there are some large, picture windows in the house. Still, I refrain from throwing stones the majority of the time. (We have billeted - for those who didn't get the joke)

As for Butte, I have always wished them success except when they played the kid's team. Moving away from playing the Montana side of the NorPac to playing the perennially weaker teams from the west part of Norpac should have a positive benefit to their w/l record. The past 2 years they played at about .500 in the league-wide tourneys while having otherwise dismal success. If they can ice a better team, they may actually fare well.

Still - they have to get by Seattle and presumptively Southern Oregon and maybe Cody, and who knows about the expansion team.

Puget Sound has a revival year - but then again- maybe not. It will also be interesting seeing the result in both the Pac and AW caused by a presumed redistribution of talent.

I've never ever seen anything like that. John it's creepy. No youth league would ever put thier kids picture up. Looking for you because of your blogging makes it every easy to find you. I would take the kids pictures down it's not safe. NO HARM INTENDED

You know what's creepy? You telling me what to do in regards to my son.

You would take his picture down? Well then, go ahead and hack my account and have at it. I don't care what a youth league would do. (Don't get me started on youth leagues, coaches, players, management, parents, and how what they do are always in the best interests of the game. Those "best interests" are why I don't officiate any longer.) I'm proud of my son and I'll share his pictures if I want to.

You and Fred both creep me out. It's why, even though I continue to be part of junior hockey, I rarely participate in these cesspools, er, uh, I mean forums here any longer. Someone (And yes, I'm guilty too) can find something in virtually every post to drag the discussion to the gutter.

Have a day, nice or otherwise. I really don't care.

Looks like this new coach might actually have things headed in the right direction for Butte. 10-1 against Glacier last night. Who could have seen that coming!?

Well that IS an accomplishment for Butte, no doubt, considering their pathetic performance the last couple years, but I don't see too many optimistic signs in Butte. Correct me if i am wrong, but Butte appears to only have 12 skaters. Michael Noe is listed on both teams, but he is not on Butte. They will, most likely, finish the year with 10 or fewer skaters as usual. Nobody (still) really wants to play for Butte, including 2 Butte-native Blom brothers playing for 2 different AWHL teams).

the website, which is actually updated, again it's the little things giving me some optimism this season, anyways, it says 13 not counting Noe or goalies...sooo, maybe not as bad as before - but yeah, agree, in the past they'd already be 0-2 and be down to 9 guys...

There was some controversy over the summer regarding Michael Noe and his status with Butte and Glacier. It is no longer controversy but since pointstreak shows he played, only pointstreak admin can fix it.

Blom kids: older decided to go to MSU Bozeman and pursue college and play juniors at the same time. younger was playing out the region and was drafted by an NA team but chose to spend his senior year closer to home. Butte would to liked to have had him sign but it was not in the cards.

Upcoming long road trip weekend, will see Seattle and West Sound. Should prove to be an interesting weeekend!

how do you know 'the screamer' is back? Butte dropped a couple of games because they were skating with 10 guys and Seattle was kind enough to keep running their top lines - even in the last few minutes of the game! Has nothing to do with 'ol Joe' as you say! Please get facts straight before assuming!!!

Butte has been outscored 47-11 since starting 2-0 against an expansion 1-6 Glacier team who is,obviously, awful. They have only dresssed 11 skaters in all 4 loses. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
