Buffalo Stars set to begin Training Camp

The Buffalo Stars Empire Junior B and Continental Junior B hockey teams will begin their month long Training Camp on Monday, August 2nd with off- ice training at the Cheektowaga Town Park.

The Stars players will go through a rigorous 10 day off ice regimen under the direction of Stars GM Pete Preteroti which includes dry-land and weight room sessions. The on-ice training begins Wednesday, August 11th at Holiday Rinks. Both teams will participate in daily on-ice and off-ice sessions until Labor Day Weekend.

Training Camp will culminate with the Greater Buffalo Labor Day Showcase and a 4 game schedule for both teams.

The Stars will be in a rebuilding mode as no less than 25 players from last year's teams have moved on to higher levels of hockey or will enter college. Returning players include 3 year veteran Christopher Kinney who is a veteran of 2 Stars trips to the Nationals and will be looking to return there, in this, his final year of Junior eligibility.

Other returning veterans include Ryan Carroll, Carson Cavers, Jon Haun, Zack Haun, Max Hyland, Corey Kifner, Ashton Laird, Steven Minderler, Tom Russell, Patrick Ryan, Michael Schalberg, TJ Schenkel, Ian Shorthouse, Jon Skorka and Jeff Welch.

"We are excited about the number of young prospects we have picked up for this coming season" says Stars VP Junior Operations and Empire Head Coach Jerry Shorthouse. "This crop of rookies has a lot of foundation and AAA experience and when combined with our returning veterans will make for some exciting hockey".

Continental Head Coach John Bruno, a veteran area coach with a Midget National Championship to his credit is excited about the upcoming season. "This will be a learning experience for many of our players. The move from midget to juniors is a big one but our players have a lot of base and should adjust to the changes quickly".

Prior to the start of camp, all Stars players and their parents will participate in a mandatory orientation at the Millennium Hotel on July 27th. At this time the Stars players and their parents will be acclimated to the rules, regulations and policies of participation in the Stars. Players will also get their pictures taken for the website and media and will be fitted for their apparel.

The Stars have a couple of open roster positions and will be looking to fill those spots during Training Camp. Players interested in the Stars should contact the Stars via email at: SportsNiag@aol.com

The Stars begin the regular season at home September 10-12 as each team plays a 3 game set. Details for opening weekend are still being worked out as the Stars will continue their tradition of paying respect to the American Troops with an elaborate Opening Ceremony. The weekend will have a distinct patriotic theme and will include a 911 remembrance tribute.
