As Rodney King once said: "Why can't we all just get along?" That will never happen with these two teams. A proper call by the ref. on St Louis #10 would have eliminated the whole situation.

Always the ref's fault or someone else's fault with the folks from Dubuque. Its amazing how bad luck just follows them around.

Figured the first comment would get a clever retort. There's enough blame to be put on both teams yesterday. The Blues aren't total angels and the T-Birds aren't total devils.

When they review the tape I hope they rewind to the previous face off where the Blues player in question dropped the DBQ center on the dot with a pretty good shot to the nads. It left him on the ice for a couple minutes and he had to go to the bench. The Blues player in question is a pretty good player, good skills, vision, great hands and decent speed. I don't understand why he brings all the stick work to his game as indicated by the number of hooks, slashes and high sticking penalties he has taken this year as opposed to last season.

Have you seen the tape and are you certain that is what happened? Was it inadvertent or intentional or did it even happen at all? Did the Dubuque player dive? Usually, if it was that obvious, the ref and linesman would call it, especially if it is on the faceoff. That, to me, implies that there was nothing to call. And the response seems to be a typical over the top Dubuque response, judging by the penalties called on the next play.

I watched it happen from about 30 feet away at ice level. Nope I haven't seen the tape and judging from the amount of smack talk going back and forth when the Dbq player got up I would say it hurt pretty good. As far as dives are concerned the only dive i'm sure of was the one in saturdays game when the Blues player took one in his defensive zone in the high slot and several players /coaches on the Stl Bench yelled for him to get up. He did not get the call and got right up and seemed fine. Were you at the game?

No, but I have seen these two teams play before. It's such a shame that the Dubuque coach would allow that type of play. It's obvious from the penalties that the Dubuque players instigated the line brawl. It is rather humorous that everyone likes to blame it on something else. I'd like to have someone who has seen the tape respond though. I have yet to see a referee miss something blatant right where the puck is being dropped. So, I'll guess that until someone actually proves it wrong, that the referee got the call right with no penalty on the phantom stick and that Dubuque mugged St. Louis.

I'm with you as far as the tape is concerned. I have my memory of how the brawl started and I haven't stated it yet because i'm not 100% sure if the way I saw it is in fact correct. I really don't want to talk about any specific individual on any team in a negative fashion. After all they are 18 year olds with lots of testosterone. You do have some assumptions in your post that may or may not prove out. I guess any suspentions will prove the info on the tape one way or the other. Yes i've seen the two teams play alot. Back to the days when Dbq was still in the MJHL and they played each other at nationals in Blaine.

What baffels me the most about St. Louis on Sunday is why they let one player in one situation take them out of their style of play and get down into the trenches with DBQ, playing in DBQ in front of a big crowd.
That is why St Louis lost. St louis is a fun team to watch. The speed, skill, movement off the puck and never quit attitude is a great style of hockey to watch. So why try to out Dubuque-Dubuque in their barn. If there is one lesson the Blues should take away from this game, that is it.

Ah yes, same argument different year, but it always involves a line brawl of a player from Dubuque jumping a player or a check from behind. The Dubuque faithful will lead a blind eye towards the obvious and the rest will be shocked that Dubuque would continue to do such things. I still say Dubuque will be missed in the CSHL. Their talent level has been good, their behavior may not be missed, but their talent will be. For the Dubuque fans, the USHL has about 1/10th the fights as they used to back in the day, my guess is that new building will go empty most nights with fans wishing they could see more fights.

Very nice wineknow.

Has it ever occured to any of the Dbq haters (XC) that St. Louis may not be angels either?

I'm not saying . . .

What I have always pointed out to the whiney Dubuque fans who always like to blame someone else for things is why is it always Dubuque and another team? Dubuque/Toledo, Dubuque/Chicago, Dubuque/Queen City, and of course our favorite Dubuque/St. Louis. Why is it always Dubuque and someone else????? Like I said, must just be bad luck.

Can't the St. Louis faithful respond that they can't hear you because they've got something like 4 Silver Cups and 5 Hurster Cups and 8 League Championships and 8 or 9 National appearances in the last 10 years in their ears? And wasn't one of them a throttling over Dubuque? I'm just sayin' you're only as good as your last game. St. Louis is about to wrap up another league championship and another trip to Nationals. Dubuque will need to get to and do well at the Hurster Cup.

I'm not a fan of either team involved, but what i saw from my vantage point in the corner at ice level was if the "no call" by the ref who I spoke to after the game ( he said he did see the infraction)they would have avoided the "payback" to the offending player. Also from the vantage point I had during the line brawl it was apparent that it was to be a 1 on 1 and the 2 wings from the team in blue seemed to get rattled and instead of just standing back they decided to be aggressive. I guess I can see their point against a team that has played them so physical and knocked them around all night, choked off their flow. I did observed something that I was amazed by, the fact that a trainer for a team is allowed to be that out of control, either by the coach or the ref, anyone that watched the bench after the fight knows what I'm speaking of.

I totally agree with you on the Roy quote... I wasn't saying that to you, but to Cross Check and the boys who are green with envy. I was at the National semi-final game (was that Blaine or Syracuse???) when the Blues thumped the T-Birds. Even though we've won 3 straight Hurster Cups here in DBQ, I'm still in awe of what STL was able to do the four or five years prior to DBQ being in the CSHL... (It's been over 15 years since the last of our three national championships heree in DBQ)

As for Sundays altercation, I saw the whole thing, and do believe that the STL player was jumped on the faceoff for a spear to the groin on a DBQ player. (By the way, the spear was "behind the play" not off a faceoff) For generations hockey has had a code where players are punched for things like using your stick as a weapon. I'm not going to get into the get into wether that code is right or wrong, as that will involve create about 80 postings here with guys arguing that point. That is just the way I saw it. I'll be glad to give you more thoughts on it if you'd like...

WineKnow is correct the infraction in question happened behind the play but was in the face-off circle. Enough about that anyone out there hear anything on the name of the new USHL team in Dubuque or who will coach the team, kinda want to know who to hate early so I can beat the rush. Always liked the old W'loo-Dbq hate-hate relationahip.

That's funny and ironic considering the thread content here!
