I finally found something interesting about the league in the Post Bulletin. Here it is.

But, Fatis did say there has been a significant rule change made in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League. The league voted this week to change a rule that has been in place for more than 10 years that stated a player needed to participate in at least eight regular-season games to be on a team's playoff roster. Now, mid-season, the league voted to allow a player to compete in the playoffs if he has just four games of service!

This is what was posted about changing the rule that a player only needs to play in four regular season games instead of eight!!!

Seriously MnJHL? Why are they turning this league into a gong show? Do you know of another league that continually makes significant rules changes during the middle of the season? In my eyes, that's deplorable. The league should be ashamed of itself. if that's a rule you want in place, fine. Make if for next season. But you just don't do those types of things mid-season. And don't even get me started on the whole "no bid to nationals for the regular-season league champion" bit. OK, that's my rant for today. Fatis was a little more level-headed than I am about this whole thing ...

Now you all react to this!!!

Find out who proposed the change, then you'll know which team(s) will benefit.

Owl Star, didn't your team take Randy Johnson to Nationals two seasons ago? I don't know the details and it was just rumor but wasn't he the tender for the Flying Aces. I think that was the year the Aces turned HOT for the playoff and took out the stangs and took the hawks to game three. The eight game rule was in place than. Now this was just rumor don't shoot the mesenger.

I will take full responsibility for advocating the rule change. It should have been done at the summer meetings but always got overlooked. The rule is required because to attend the national tournament a player must participate in 10 games prior to the tournament. The rule of 8 made sense when the mnjhl play-offs only consisted of five teams. Now, a team must play at least six games in the play-offs to get to the National tournament. Hence the vote changed the rule to four and was passed by a substantial margin of the teams voting.

Hey I don't care one way or another about this rule. I think personally rules should be kept for the entire year. Why didn't they also decide since they were changing rules they should make the winner of the regular season go to Nationals?? HMMM...LOL...
I am just trying to get people to chat more on here so I dug up some dirt to see if anyone would chat about it and you are so that is good!!!

The MnJHL continues to shoot itself in the foot with these types of decisions. Just completely throw out the regular season, put a team together for 4 games and go to Nationals. Ridiculous.

xcheck that's a good idea. So if the teams that aren't doing good could voluntarily help load a team up for Nationals. Hey that makes sense...in essence the MJ could send leaglly two all-star teams' if I am reading this right. mmmmmmm maybe they could kick everyone's butt and really get the scouts interested in the league. Oh but what if they lost at Nationals. Now is everyone thinking....hey owly hows that for starting sssssshhhhh.......ttttt. I just mis-spelled stuff there SP lol.

What stops the CSHL, or any other league for that matter, from doing what you suggest????

I hear NAHH has a "short bus" that transports the spelling impaired to Nest gatherings. Membership fees are doubled though.

Pretty simple, a team like yours in the CSHL wouldn't have the chance because the second to last place team in the CSHL doesn't make the playoffs. The regular season means something in the CSHL. In the MnJHL, you in your second to last place team could acquire the players to win your playoff and go to Nationals. Those players need only 4 games with you to do so. In other words, it would be a complete farce. Well, that's exactly what the MnJHL has become with changing rules in the middle of the season and making the season meaningless.

XC,

4 of your 13 teams have a worse winning percentage then 8 of our 9 teams.

What's That say about the depth of your league?

NOT MUCH!

One team???? When is the last time the MnJHL had 2 teams in the National Championship Game? That has happened twice recently in the CSHL. Oh, and the last MnJHL team to make it to the Championship Game is who? Dubuque. My guess is the CSHL will still be much more representative at the Nationals year in and year out than the MnJHL. The past 10 years pretty much prove that.

Lipjack, how did the CSHL do last year? Hawks beat the saintly Blues, and the Jacks tied Dbq. The Jacks made the crossover, but mysteriously, no CSHL teams did.

Beyond that is just dust in the trophy case.

Watch out everyone we're loading up our team for the playoffs. 16 of our players have been here since the beginning, so I'll just cut them. Let's see, we can add puckdog and his buddy, maybe can get cross check's team to jump ship in mass. Oh wait, we'd be terrible, you say? Well, maybe I ought to keep those hard-working kids after all.

How many games of regular season play to play in the play-offs does the CSHL require Xchek?

6 is what I was told this morning. And don't look for the CSHL to change it in the middle of the season. Integrity of the season is something they won't mess with.

let the teams load up on players to make a playoff push, it wont really matter much cause a wise man once said, " it's all coaching at this level"

So Xchek doesn't know how many games a player in the CSHL must play to get in the play-offs (even though he's in management) but someone told him it was six.

Oh, six is so much better than four.

Xchek, you want to repeat your little rant about loading up for the play-offs only insert that LARGE number SIX instead of FOUR.

See what a HUGE difference it makes. Thanks for proving you don't know much about anything. Of course, everyone on this board has known that for years.
