How will the crowds be next year with a higher level of hockey just down the road? Do many from Austin show up for the games? I actually still think that the crowds for the Ice Hawks may still be higher than the North American Games in Austin.

Someone down there let us all know.

Well just like the rest of the MJ teams and other NA teams in MN, I'm pretty sure the Ice Hawks will out draw the new Austin Bruins. I just don't see any Ice Hawk fans headng to Austin just because they have an NA team, they sure aren't making the trip to Owatonna.

Thank a soldier and a vet for fighting for our right to watch hockey.

Just another example of how the NAHL is trying to run their own agenda across the USAH landscape. These fools will leave a wake of bankrupt teams in their wake. Not to mention a saturated hockey pool of players and confused parents. Welcome to the new NAHL...we're Tier III A...only not as organized.

The NAHL recently tried to put in a rule that would allow teams to charge players. It was shot down before it even got to USAH.

It is simple...the NAHL must be feeling the financial pinch of trying to support teams and want to adopt the Tier III A model, albeit modified. Instead, they add more teams and dispurse the franchise fees. What a novel idea. Bilk new owners into thinking their teams will actually break even and sell their current owners on it as the right way to do business.

C'mon zombies! When are people going to wake up and do something about this? Minnesotans pride themselves on running hockey differently than the rest. Now the NAHL is coming into your towns and corrupting the way things were. Owatonna, Alex and Albert Lea does not draw the fans that teams like the Ice Hawks do. Teams like Dubuque (CSHL), Helena & Missoula (Norpac), El Paso (WSHL) are only a few teams that out draw most of the NAHL teams. And don't go by Pointstreak. Ask people who go to games. My friends in NAHL markets get back to me regularily and report that a Pointstreak reported crowd of 1150 is actually 350-400 in some markets.

Despite this, teams and players line up to drink this Kool-Aid.

Again, wake up and do something about it.

The MJHL is a good league with long standing tradition. Mark my words....it is not long for this world as the NAHL is putting teams in your back yard. They will soon try to get III A status and push you out. It is coming folks.....these donkeys will sacrifice the quality of hockey to reach their goals. STOP THEM!!!

Very well said!!! They have to all be losing their shorts in the NAHL. And those trips to Alaska must be fun a couple of times in the dead of winter.

Here's another kicker....all of you players thinking about playing in Fresno, Wenatchee and the Alaska teams take notice. Those NAHL teams will not play outside their division. I repeat...THOSE NAHL TEAMS WILL NOT PLAY OUTSIDE THEIR DIVISION!!! So before you but into the recruiting BS from these teams, weight your options. If anyone knows of any scouts from college who will go to games in these cities please tell us. Even UAF barely goes to Ice Dog games in Fairbanks. For my money, I would drop the 7500 and send my kid to the EJHL At least I know there will be scouts in attendence every night.

It comes down to quality of program. While I will concede that the NAHL is currently a better product than Tier 3, there are programs in Tier 3 that out shine the majority of NA teams in terms of college players. Of course the EJ leads in that department but programs like Helena (Norpac), Phoenix (WSHL), Minnesota (MJHL), St. Louis, Dubuque (CSHL) and Nothern Cyclones (AJHL) have more college placements than a majority of NAHL teams.

It is simple. If your son is a top 6 foward or top 4 defenseman in the NA, then go there. If not, go to a good Tier 3 team and play and develop your game. Most leagues involve little travel and school days missed. In the WSHL you are pretty much guaranteed to miss every Friday for road trips so maybe steer clear of there. In actuality, Ron White is also cut from the Frankenfeld mold....expand with zero regard or planning for the ramifications. Simply put, these leagues have no game plane. These league leaders are merely about lining their pockets with expansion money. Plus the 7k you spend in the WSHL is steep for what you get.

Until this expansion mess gets worked out, I would carefully invest time into where your kid plays. A league solely bent on expanding spells trouble to me.
