Buffalo Stars conclude Training Camp with weekend Tournament

The Buffalo Stars will conclude their month long training camp this weekend as they participate in the Greater Buffalo Labor Day Shootout sponsored by Amateur Sports Productions and the Buffalo Hornets Youth Hockey Association.

Both Buffalo Stars teams will compete in separate Junior C and Junior B Divisions.

The B team, after a month of dryland, classroom and 2 a day on ice skates are looking forward to playing as they prepare to take on the Hampton Whalers of the CHA Premier Junior B, Philadelphia Little Flyers of the MET Junior B and Syracuse of the Empire Junior B. The Stars 26 man roster is pumped for action as the squad has a solid mix of veterans, rookies and out of town players.

The C team is also primed for action as their month long camp comes to an end with action against Hampton’s CHA Select team; Binghamton’s mixed B/C team and the West Seneca Midget Major team. The 23 man C roster has a solid core of veterans who are joined by an equal number of hungry rookies.

The Junior divisions play all day Saturday at Holiday Twin Rinks as play begins at 7:30am and continues through 11pm. The feature game of the day will be the 8:45pm contest in the B division as the Buffalo Stars take on Philadelphia. The Junior divisions continue Sunday through 4pm.

The overall Tournament begins on Friday at 1pm at Holiday and games continue Saturday and Sunday at both Holiday and Leisure. Championship rounds in the Youth divisions take place on Monday at Holiday. A total of 65 games in Minor Peewee, Bantam Major, Midget U16 and Midget U18, as well as the Junior Divisions will be played.

Our Buffalo Hornets Labor Day Tournament is being dedicated to a long time Buffalo Official Jeff Hileman.

Jeff battled cancer for the last 2 years and unfortunately lost his hard fought battle with this dreaded disease last month.

Jeff was a long time veteran Buffalo official who dedicated his life to hockey excellence. His love and passion for hockey was fierce and he was always a loyal and dedicated friend. Jeff always had a special place in his heart for the Buffalo Hornets Organization and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Jeff is survived by his widow Connie.

As part of our dedication to the memory of Jeff, we will have a moment of silence for all of our Championship Games on Monday, September 3rd. In addition we will offer a moment of silence at our feature Junior Game on Saturday evening, September 1st at 8:45pm at Holiday Rinks as the Buffalo Stars battle the Philadelphia Little Flyers.

The Buffalo Hornets will also reserve a place in our trophy case as a permanent memorial to Jeff.

A full schedule can be found on the Buffalo Hornets website at:www.buffalohornets.org or the Buffalo Stars website at: www.buffalostars.com

A complete list of tournament results will be posted hourly on the WNY Hockey League website message boards in the Tournament section. Visit that site at: www.wnyahl.com
